Rolf van de Kerkhof (Tilburg,
The Netherlands) If you notice a tall man on the field, you can be pretty sure itÕs Rolf
van de Kerkhof. We call Rolf the
ÒSuper Head CoachÓ for the Spartans of Michigan State, as his team continues
to be successful while having fun throughout the season. This past (2009) season, Rolf and his
coaching staff led the MSU field hockey team to a #6 rank in the nation, as
well as becoming Big Ten Champions and Big Ten Tournament Champions. For RolfÕs 4th year as
head coach, he and the MSU team also boasted another NCAA tournament
appearance, one game away from the final four. Rolf began his field hockey journey in the land of the Dutch ~ The
Netherlands (also called ÒHollandÓ).
In Holland, he enjoyed a playing career as a goalkeeper and eventually
a defender and midfielder. Next of playing he has been coaching youth teams
for many years. From collegiate years and on, Rolf has brought field hockey into his
professional, athletic, and personal lifestyles. Rolf enjoyed field hockey as
a Project Marketing Manager at the 1998 World Cup Field Hockey for men and
women in The Netherlands. Rolf
also currently assists the US Field Hockey (USFHA) as a clinician, head
coach, and selector for its many Olympic development programs (i.e. Futures,
Futures Elite, Future Invitational Development Camp (FIDC), US U16 National
Women's Team, US U19 Elite Selection, and Future Elite Holland Hockey Tours).
Field hockey also has much importance to his personal life. It was the avenue for meeting his
beautiful wife Mary; their son Sebastiaan continues to show his future field
hockey stardom; and another surprise son or daughter is showing off his/her
athleticism even before being born!
(coming in the end of April 2010). |
